Last Wednesday at around five in the morning I received a phone call from a friend (I felt like Biggie Smalls in the video “Warning” at that moment). I woke up very upset and frustrated, because I wanted to get enough sleep before a long day at work. I remember saying hello, but only to hear the voice of EMT and a familiar voice crying. I hung up when I realized that the call made to me was by accident, but still my mind for the next few hours was concentrated on my friend and what circumstances lead up to this early morning call.
A few hours later I received a call from my friend and she explained to me in detail how her boyfriend had severely beaten her. My mind went into shock and the first question I asked her was if her baby was okay, because she’s 4 month pregnant. Eventually she explained how she would now have issues with her living situation, because of the recent activity. Being concerned with her unborn child and her well being I went through my mental rolodex and came up with Kstarr Foundation.
The KStarr Foundation is a fairly new non-profit organization by founder Falasha Harrison. “The purpose of The KStarr Foundation is to touch the lives of families with babies and children with the necessary items to provide a loving, safe, healthy, nurturing and comfortable beginning. At The KStarr Foundation, we realize that in our community we need stable support groups and programs that offer the fundamentals of raising confident, aware young men and women, which starts in the home and surroundings of our children as early as the first week of their lives.”
The moment I sent an email to the founder Falasha I felt like she was expecting me to touch base with her. She had questions and the options available to my friend for her situation. For the next few days we exchanged information and she provided me with such information that I at some points felt overwhelmed. Working with Falasha was great because she was going above and beyond for a complete stranger, but in heart she wasn’t a stranger but a friend. The KStarr Foundation made me feel like this problem had solutions, and I’m glad there’s a program like KStarr out there. I’ve linked a video below of Falasha with an in depth explanation of The KStarr Foundation.
The brothers of G-Hamp definitely support the work that Falasha and the Kstarr Foundation are doing in the community. We know without the love the women in our lives their wouldn’t be a G-Hamp. So we will continue to support and blog about the great work that is being done Thank you Falasha not only for your help, but also for creating KStarr.
